Key Details

What Must I obtain?

All Volunteers aged 18+ are required to provide a clean PRC with Vulnerable Sector Search during their initial application.

What if I already have a PRC?

Scouts Canada will only accept PRCs that include a Vulnerable Sector Search that were completed in the past 3 months. If your is still valid, but was done more than 3 months ago, you will need to obtain a new one.

Do I only need a PRC once?

No; PRCs are only valid for 3 years. You will need to renew it every 3 years, per Scouts Canada policy to keep our youth safe.

Who do I submit my PRC to?

The request must be made to the local police detachment of your address. If you live within Ottawa that would be the Ottawa Police Service; if you live in one of the outlying communities that would be the OPP.

Is there a cost?

No! As a volunteer, we will provide you with a letter that will result in this being no cost to you.

Confidentiality

Your police records check will only be seen by those required to validate it; it will not be shared with others.

Obtaining a Letter

Our Group Comissioner will reach out to you after your application has been submitted on MyScouts, and will provide you with a letter describing the role you are volunteering for.

This letter is required to ensure that you don’t end up needing to pay for it!

Submitting the Request

As mentioned, you’ll need to submit this to your local police department. Each have their own processes, but allow you to start the process online.

In-Person Verification

Ocasionally you may not be able to complete your request online, and may be requested to make an in-person appointment for verification.
